I began my Postgraduate Diploma training in Counselling & Psychotherapy in 2007. Being over 15 years post-qualified, I now run my own practice in the Central East areas of London. I also hold a Masters in Research Methods in Psychology (2005) and a Bachelors degree in Psychology (2002). I am a registered member of British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP).
I have worked with individuals, couples and groups presenting with many issues including anxiety, depression, substance abuse, loss and relationship/family problems. I have worked with a wide range of different ethnic/cultural groups and am well attuned to differences in values/faith which shape life decisions & experiences.
I begin by exploring my client's current needs and goals to provide a framework for therapy. As we progress forward, depending on where the client is at, I may guide them to identify factors that are blocking personal growth. This may involve exploring ones's past, bringing to the surface any past experiences which have been repressed and now manifesting in wider problems.
I endeavour to be very client-led and place my client at the centre of the therapeutic process. You can expect to feel safe and respected regardless of your background or circumstances. Often clients have difficulty deciding if they actually need therapy, the consultation is tailored to support this decision process and offer you the level of help needed. This may include short-term or long-term work.
Having worked with a wide range of client groups, I have identified 'loss' as a common theme in therapy. Loss does not necessarily refer to the death of a close one, but often there is a loss of an expectation that one grieves for, due to life not having turned out as planned. Perhaps we had a fixed idea of who we wanted to be, what our ideal life partner would be like, having a family etc. When these things do not fall into plan, we can experience a deep loss or anxiety.
After a client has made initial contact, I will arrange a brief telephone consultation within 48 hours, to allow us to elaborate a little further on what the presenting issue is. A face to face/online appointment will then be arranged within the week, in which we may work together to identify initial goals to work towards.
If the client is happy to move forward with me and I am able to support, we agree on an initial 6 week block of sessions, after which a review takes place to re-set goals if necessary and book further sessions. Progress is monitored periodically using standardised mood scales, which aids clients to track their own journey too.

"That thing you are looking for, I look for it too. But I don't think it's here. It's not in him and it's not in her. But I think it's near , very near"
In our daily struggles, too often we find ourselves in search of things outside of ourselves.
But with every exchange we have with something external, we give some part of ourself away, inevitably losing more of our self.
Perhaps what we are missing therefore, is a need to return to ourselves more often than we do, and search inwardly- particularly when we are struggling.
Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about how counselling works, or to arrange an initial assessment appointment. This enables us to discuss the reasons you are thinking of coming to counselling, whether it could be helpful for you and whether I am the right therapist to help.
You can also call me on +44 7988 934480 if you would prefer to leave a message or speak to me first. I am happy to discuss any queries or questions you may have prior to arranging an initial appointment.
All enquires are usually answered within 24 hours, and all contact is strictly confidential and uses secure phone and email services.
